Seminar tries to make the homebuying process less scary

LAUGHLIN — A group of real estate and lending professionals joined forces last month to help alleviate the fears and concerns that often arise when purchasing a home.
During the free seminar, which was held at the Laughlin Library on March 26, Matt McClelland of Fairway Mortgage explained the lender pre-approval process and credit requirements.
“It is very important to get fully pre-approved with an in-state lender and know/be comfortable with your numbers (primarily payment and cash required),” he said.
The issues of title and escrow were covered by Amy Prince of Pioneer Title.
She said that it's important for potential buyers to identify "dealbreakers" and unwanted features that could add to the cost of a property early on.
"Also, work with someone you’re comfortable with to lessen the potentially nerve-wracking characteristic of the process,” she said.
Sara Entner, a Realtor with The Five Star Team, said buyers also need to make sure they know what they truly want and need — and what they don't want or need.
